Up to three web browsers on one computer (or three tabs, in browsers that support tabs) can share one FactoryTalk ViewPoint client license to connect to the same published web application. Licenses in use are released immediately when a user logs off from a web application, or within 30 seconds when a web browser disconnects.
If you tried to connect to a web application, and the web browser was unable to obtain a FactoryTalk ViewPoint client license, consider the following potential causes and remedies.
After downloading the FactoryTalk ViewPoint client licenses you purchased to an activation server, you need to ensure that the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server is connected to the activation server computer. To establish this connection, use FactoryTalk Activation Manager.
If the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server is connected to an activation server (local or remote), in FactoryTalk ViewPoint Administration, the Activation page should show the number of FactoryTalk ViewPoint licenses the activation server can provide.
If available, three licenses are automatically assigned to the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server. This means that three web browsers on different computers cab connect to the currently published web application. To allow more web browsers to connect simultaneously, you have to change the number of assigned licenses.
In FactoryTalk ViewPoint Administration, check the Activation page to confirm whether all the licenses assigned to the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server are in use.
When you enter a web address for the initial screen in the browser, if the web address exceeds the maximum 2048 characters allowed, the following error message appears, "Unable to open the requested display. The web address exceeds the maximum length of 2048 characters".
Different browsers have different length limits. If you get this error message because you are using large numbers of parameters it is recommended that you use a parameter file instead.
To avoid this problem, rework the screen so that the web address is less than 2048 characters.
